Abstract: The way of teaching grammar may be different for elementary, secondary, tertiary, and undergraduate students. This study focused on the teaching grammar in secondary schools, especially in junior high schools because the curriculum said that the teaching of grammar in junior high school is not clearly stated. Students will not master the grammar without any help. Therefore, a teacher has a crucial role to help their students. This study aimed to describe teachers' techniques of teaching grammar in junior high schools in Salatiga. The research participants were four English teachers from four different schools in Salatiga. The data were collected using a nonparticipant observation and a semi- structured interview. The results of this study found seven different techniques used by the teachers in teaching grammar to their students. This study also revealed two main reasons why the teachers used those techniques to teach grammar to the students, which were to make the grammar more understandable and to make students more enthusiastic in learning grammar.
